Academic > Goose Island Master Plan (2008) Families Studio Second year design award: Honorable Mention

For this studio project, we were asked to look at Goose Island as an area needing an intervention. Goose Island is a man-made island located on the north west side of Chicago. Although it might seem desolate when traversing the island, there are a number of established institutions still operating on the site that one is not aware of or never would have recognized while driving through Division St.

For the re-development of Goose Island, the island should not be isolated from the rest of the neighborhoods. Rather, it should be a place that is rich in diversity, function as an attractive spot just north of the loop, and more importantly, a resource for the city. Through strategic planning, the re-development of Goose Island will providing mix- income residency, cultural amenities, recreational activities, and business opportunities.
